We send all applicants full details of our audition/interview requirements and our admissions process with their audition/interview offer letter.

Below is a summary of what you should prepare for your first-round audition or interview for each LAMDA course. If you are asked to attend a second audition/interview or recall, you will be sent additional information on what to prepare.

BA (HONS) PROFESSIONAL ACTING, MFA PROFESSIONAL ACTING, LAMDA FOUNDATION DIPLOMA AND MA CLASSICAL ACTING FOR THE PROFESSIONAL THEATRE

You should present:

  • one monologue from an Elizabethan or Jacobean play; and
  • one monologue from a play written in either the 20th or 21st Century, but not a piece written by you or by an unknown or little-known author.

Each piece should last no longer than three minutes and there must be a clear contrast between the two.

After presenting your work to the panel, you will be interviewed briefly as part of the audition process.

Audition criteria for applicants who are auditioning in North America will differ slightly, full information will be sent with your audition offer.

Note: for auditions, you should be comfortably dressed and wear suitable footwear.

PRODUCTION & TECHNICAL ARTS: STAGE & SCREEN

You should be prepared to discuss your reasons for wanting to take this course and bring a portfolio showing examples of your work.

Note: all interviews take place in London and there is no second interview or recall for this course.

MA DIRECTING

First Round

You should be prepared to discuss your reasons for wanting to take this course and must bring your portfolio with you to help demonstrate aspects of your work.

Second Round

You will also be asked to direct a short scene with professional actors, which will be observed by a theatre practitioner.

Note: Applicants will only be invited for interview if they have completed a college or university course, and are sufficiently involved in student theatre to indicate serious professional intent; or must have adequate professional experience to meet the demands of the course.  Interviews for this course take place in London, if you are an Overseas student you may be able to organise your first round interview via Skype.  Please note any subsequent recalls would be in London or New  York.
