Unit Two is designed to enable learners to develop a range of communication skills in a group format. It is their opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge and skills required for effective group discussion and to engage with the content of a discussion in a small group of between three and five participants.

Assessment for Unit Two is both internal and external.

For the internal assessment (20% of the final mark for the unit), learners watch a DVD of a group discussion and complete a written examination. This examination is marked by the teacher.

For the external assessment (80% of the final mark for the unit), learners are assessed by a LAMDA examiner as they participate in a group discussion, lasting approximately 10 minutes. The discussion topic is selected in advance from a set list provided by LAMDA.

The total mark for this unit represents 40% of the overall grade for the qualification.
