Two-week summer short course

Thinking about training as an actor? Wonder what acting students do when they’re at drama school? Then this is the course for you!

Our Introduction to Drama School short course is modelled on our one-year Foundation Diploma and will give you an insight into our rigorous drama training. Working in groups of between 15 and 20 students, you will experience our ethos of the ensemble, with a focus on performance-based training.

The course culminates in an informal sharing of work in the form of an open rehearsal, attended by tutors and fellow students.

This course is not validated by a higher education institution (HEI). It is one of our own range of non-accredited certificates. Students who complete this course will receive a LAMDA Short Course Certificate.

Minimum Age: 16 years (Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications if you are under the minimum age on the first day of the course).  There is no upper age limit.

Entry Requirements

Entry is by application form with a short personal statement.
There is no application deadline for this course but we advise you to apply early, as places are limited.

Fluent English speakers*

*Note: We require a level of English that is approx. IELTS 6.0. It is not mandatory for English language tests to have been taken prior to attending this short course however we recommend that for non-native English speakers that if you have not completed Level 6 IELTS then you must have the equivalent English language experience. This will be assessed where necessary via telephone interview by the Admissions team, please note their decision is final.

Note: In the unlikely event that LAMDA is compelled to close due to a force majeure, no fees can be returned nor compensation made for any period of tuition that may have been lost through the Academy’s inability to carry on its work as a result of circumstances beyond its control.

Payment Schedule

If offered a place you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of £100 to secure your place on the course and you will be given a specific deadline to pay the remaining balance by.


At the end of the course students will receive a LAMDA Short Course Certificate, upon successful completion of the full course. This course is not validated by a higher education institution (HEI). This is one of LAMDA’s own range of non-accredited certificates. 

Cancellation Policy

Please note that fees will be refunded for up to 28 days after the deposit is paid up until 15 March 2019. After 15 March 2019 fees can be refunded for up to 14 days after the deposit is paid. No refunds can be made after the course has started. If in accord with these deadlines then all fees will be refunded minus the deposit. Payments made for housing (if applicable) will be refunded minus 10% up until 15 March 2019. After 15 March 2019 no housing costs will be refunded. Students are advised to insure themselves to cover the loss of any fees in the event of any circumstances such as illness which prevents them from attending the course as LAMDA cannot accept any liability for this.

Academy Regulations

In enrolling with LAMDA as a student, you become part of LAMDA’s community. From the point your offer is confirmed you are required to abide by the regulations, rules, policies and procedures set out in LAMDA’s Terms & Conditions

You are required at all times to behave courteously and respectfully towards other students and members of academic and non-academic staff, including visiting professionals, in accordance with the Academy Regulations. If you breach any of LAMDA’s terms and conditions for example, failure to abide by health and safety requirements or serious cases of non-approved absence or serious breach of the Academy Regulations then LAMDA obtains the right to withdraw your place on the course immediately.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Unfortunately there are no scholarships or bursaries available for LAMDA’s short courses.


LAMDA does not have its own student accommodation. Housing is available upon request, and for an additional cost, to short course students aged 18 and over. It is assigned on a first come, first served basis and cannot be guaranteed. Please note that LAMDA are currently confirming housing with an external student housing provider so bookings for housing will not open until early 2019.

Visas and Immigration

If you are not from an EU or EEA country or Switzerland, you will need to obtain a Student Visitor Visa prior to entry to the UK if you are a visa national or upon entry to the UK if you are a non-visa national. It is each student’s responsibility to have the right documentation for study when they arrive at LAMDA.

Please note that you cannot enter the UK on a Visitor’s Visa if your intention is to study on this course. If you do not have a valid visa, you will not be allowed to study at LAMDA.

Course runs Monday to Friday (unless the course dates include a Bank Holiday), 35 hours per week. It is taught by the same tutors and industry professionals who lead our full-time training, supported by visiting artists and recent LAMDA graduates.
