Poetry Night 2016

On Wednesday, 2 November we held our annual Poetry Night; a much loved event within the Academy where our drama school students have the opportunity to embrace the art of poetry and showcase their creative talents by performing a published or original piece of poetry.

Heats were held on 19 and 26 October 2016 with judges Judith Philips and Alex Bingley choosing 15 finalists out of over 50 students who took part.

On the night, LAMDA Exams Committee Member Peter Broad, LAMDA Examiner Vivien Heilbron and LAMDA Principal Joanna Read had the difficult job of adjudicating and choosing the winners. And here they are:

Jon Chew
The winner in our Published Poetry category was Jon Chew who performed Pak Utih by Usman Awang.

Runner up in the Published Poetry category was Rory Nelson Kulz who performed America by Tony Hoagland.

Sophie Holmes and Grace Tarr won the award for Original Poetry with their poem Should, Could, Didn’t.

Jensen Gray took home the runner up prize in our Original Poetry category with her poem Yem (hjem).

All of our finalists joined on stage by judge Vivien Heilbron.

Our congratulations to everyone that took part. As usual at events like this, we were hugely #LAMDAproud (though not at all surprised) at the incredible talent on show.
