On Wednesday 7 June 2017, we raised the curtain on our new centre for world-leading drama training. In the company of critically-acclaimed actors and graduates Paterson Joseph and Rory Kinnear, we turned a spotlight onto the new theatres and training spaces that are transforming our west London home and ensuring we have the facilities to match our international reputation.
LAMDA Chairman Rt. Hon. Shaun Woodward and Principal Joanna Read unveiled the 200-seat Sainsbury Theatre, 120-seat Carne Studio Theatre, The Manny & Brigitta Davidson Foyer and The Sackler Library. They also showed guests the 10 rehearsal studios, fully-equipped digital screen and audio suite, backstage facilities, and LAMDA Examinations offices that complete our new home.
Designed by Níall McLaughlin Architects, the redevelopment was made possible thanks to the generous supporters of our Act Now! Campaign. Launched at the National Theatre in November 2013, with alumnus Benedict Cumberbatch CBE as Patron and former Cabinet Minister, Rt. Hon. Shaun Woodward as Chair, it is the most ambitious and successful fundraising campaign we have ever undertaken.
Commenting on the new facilities Act Now! Patron and LAMDA graduate, Benedict Cumberbatch CBE said: “This new building is more than just bricks and mortar; it is a testament to our collective belief in the vitality of LAMDA.”
