The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Joanna Read
Performed in The Sainsbury Theatre

When Valentine moves from Verona to Milan, he leaves behind his best friend, Proteus, who cannot bear to be parted from his beloved, Julia. But at the command of his father Proteus does travel to Milan, and swiftly forgets Julia when he meets Valentine's beloved, Silvia. Can their loyalty to each other survive this test, or will new loyalties drive out the old? The two young friends are driven apart by the conflict between love and friendship in Shakespeare’s darkly comic early romance.
