Blood Wedding

Written by Federico García Lorca, Retold by Barney Norris
Directed by Alice Hamilton
Performed by our final year BA (Hons) Professional Acting students in The Linbury Studio

As Georgie prepares to marry her fiancé Rob, a chance encounter with a face from her past leaves her doubting the path she’s taking. Blood Wedding examines the choices we make, the regrets we’re left with, and the constraints and commitments of life in a rural community.

Lorca’s Spanish folk tragedy, based on a newspaper fragment, was written in 1932 as a story of a family vendetta and a runaway bride. Exploring Lorca’s themes of romantic love and tragedy, Barney Norris relocates the play to a Wiltshire village hall. An award-winning playwright, poet and essayist, Norris’ other plays include Visitors (Critics’ Circle Award) and Nightfall, staged at the Bridge Theatre in 2018.
