About the course

This intensive weekend course is an opportunity to enter a classical acting laboratory. Designed for professional working actors, students will participate in a weekend of in-depth classical text study. You’ll leave the course feeling inspired, focused, and strengthened in your craft.

LAMDA is the UK’s oldest drama school and has trained some of Britain’s (and the world’s) foremost classical actors, such as Gabby Beans, Benedict Cumberbatch and David Oyelowo.

At the root of our teaching is the ethos of the ensemble – the belief that drama is a collaborative art form. As such, you’ll be encouraged to work and play together as a company, learning from and sharing with each other over this exciting weekend.

What will I learn?

In this masterclass-style weekend intensive, you’ll use your existing advanced practice as a base from which you’ll be guided towards a more profound and expert ability to understand and interpret classical text. You will be challenged and inspired with personalized, specific direction, and as such the learning will be highly tailored to each participant.

Is this course for me?

This course is for professional actors, who would like to build upon their existing toolkit for working with classical text, maintain and enhance their practice, or expand their skillset to include classical text if their experience has been predominantly within contemporary or devised work.

Our tutors are adept at providing bespoke feedback and challenging the individual within an inclusive group setting.

Our professional level classes give you an opportunity to invest in yourself and your professional practice. Taking part in these classes is a way to connect (or reconnect!) with the joy of acting. It’s a place to experiment, play, and make new discoveries.

Further Information

We are thrilled to be offering LAMDA’s British conservatoire-style actor training outside of London for the very first time. We are a truly global drama school, having been ranked 6th by the Hollywood Reporter in its 2024 list of the best drama schools in the world. With many of our students being from the USA, and going on to work in the USA, New York City was a natural fit to be the home of our first international studio.

Our hope is that LAMDA NYC can be a hub for US-based LAMDA graduates to continue to train, and for those new to LAMDA to experience our work. We look forward to expanding our studio class offerings, and to bringing a slice of LAMDA training to the Big Apple.

You must be 21 or older to participate in this course.

Applicants must have graduated from a Drama School Acting course of at least two terms (or an equivalent level of training at a recognized programme). If you are unsure if you meet this requirement, please contact our Short Course team on [email protected]

The course is delivered through the medium of English. Non-native speakers of English should have a level of English approximately equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
