Become an Examiner

Our Examining Panel are knowledgeable and passionate educators based across the UK. Each examiner brings a wealth of experience to the role and must assess the full suite of LAMDA Exams qualifications, including Communication, Performance, Musical Theatre and Shakespeare.

We recruit new examiners up to three times per academic year, and we’re always open to hearing from new teachers and creatives. If you’re looking to expand your skillset and grow your expertise, apply now to join us.

What You Need

Examiners can be teachers, actors or directors. To apply, you must:

  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification and/or a Master’s degree in a performance-related subject.
  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching across the current LAMDA Exams syllabi, in both Communication and Performance subject areas, with experience working with a range of ages and abilities.
  • Be a great communicator. In the examination room, you’ll be leading a formal assessment with accuracy, encouragement and warmth. Outside of the exam, you’ll be an ambassador for LAMDA Exams, representing us with respect, professionalism and kindness.
  • Be able to work calmly under pressure and possess strong organisational skills. Exam days are busy, so you need to be able to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Be available for a minimum of 20 days each year.

What You Receive

As an examiner, you will join a community of experienced and supportive practitioners, dedicated to giving learners a positive and encouraging examining experience.

Through this, you will:

  • Have a positive impact on learners as they develop their communication or performance skills.
  • Invest in your own development, attending invigorating training days held remotely and in-person at LAMDA.
  • Contribute to the development of the LAMDA Exams syllabi and potentially lead teacher training courses.
  • With further experience, you might assess learners worldwide – whether examining remotely or travelling to international centres to conduct exams and deliver workshops.

Next Steps

Applications to become an examiner can be submitted at any time of the year. We recruit examiners up to three times per academic year (from August – July).

If your application is successful, you will be invited for an interview led by a member of the Chief Examiner Team, which will be conducted remotely.

Following a successful interview, you will be invited to attend training sessions remotely and in-person at LAMDA. Dates and times of this will be confirmed when you are invited to interview.
