From morning to night it’s alive with rehearsals, productions, and training in motion. Created for collaboration, experimentation, and professional practice, it gives students access to industry-standard spaces, technologies, and facilities that reflect the realities of working across stage, screen, and sound.
Three theatres, one training environment
LAMDA’s three theatres are working performance spaces at the heart of student training. The Sainsbury Theatre is our largest, seating up to 220 and hosting large-scale productions. The Carne and The Linbury Studio are flexible black box spaces, seating 120 and 90, designed for experimentation and intimate performance. Work is staged throughout the year and opened up to audiences and industry.
Screen technology for the future
We’re training the next generation of screen creatives in a rapidly evolving industry. Backed by an investment of almost £2 million in our facilities, students work with cutting-edge tools including an LED Volume virtual production studio, where entire environments are built and filmed in real time, and a motion capture studio that transforms live performance into digital characters for film, television, and games. This is a creative hub where performance meets technology.
Sound and storytelling in action
From voiceover to video games, audio is a core part of contemporary performance. In LAMDA’s professional sound booths and recording studios, students explore radio drama, narration, podcasts, and digital storytelling. These are spaces where voice becomes performance, and where technical precision and creative expression develop side by side.
Building the world of performance
This is where ideas become reality. LAMDA’s production facilities include workshops for scenic construction, prop-making, lighting, and electronics, alongside a full-height fly tower in The Sainsbury Theatre. Built to mirror professional theatre environments, this gives students hands-on experience of the scale, speed, and complexity of working in live production.
