UK Student Funding

Funding Options for UK Students

If you’re thinking about studying at LAMDA, there may be government funding options available to help with the cost of your training.

The support you can apply for depends on your course, where you live and your personal circumstances. Find out more about undergraduate loans, postgraduate loans and other funding options below.

Undergraduate Student Loans

If you’re a UK citizen and have accepted a place on our BA (Hons) Professional Acting or BA (Hons) Production and Technical Arts courses, you may be eligible for a government student loan.

LAMDA’s undergraduate degrees are funded in the same way as other degree courses at universities and colleges in England. This means our fees are regulated, and you can apply for support through the Student Loans Company (SLC).

You may be able to apply for:

  • Tuition Fee Loan – This helps cover the cost of your course fees and is paid directly to LAMDA on your behalf.
  • Maintenance Loan – This helps with living costs, such as accommodation, travel, food and study materials. It is paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term. The amount you receive depends on your household income and whether you live at home or away from home during your studies.

For the latest information on loan amounts and eligibility, visit the Student Loans Company website.

You should apply directly through the Student Loans Company.

We recommend applying as early as possible to make sure your application is assessed in time and that you receive the correct level of support.

Postgraduate Student Loans

If you’re starting a postgraduate course at LAMDA, you may be eligible for a Postgraduate Master’s Loan to help with course fees and living costs.

The loan is paid directly to you and can be used towards the costs of your studies, including tuition fees, accommodation and other living expenses. The amount available depends on the year you start your course and your personal circumstances.

Funding arrangements vary depending on where you normally live. Different rules apply if you are normally resident in:

  • Northern Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Wales

Please check the latest eligibility requirements on the UK government website.

You only begin repaying your loan once you earn above the relevant repayment threshold.

Find out more about loan repayments through the UK government website.

Other Funding Options

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for additional government or private support.

An Advanced Learner Loan may help cover tuition fees for eligible courses.

You may also be eligible for support through the Loan Bursary Fund after your loan application has been approved. This may help with costs including:

  • Support for disabilities or learning difficulties
  • Accommodation and travel
  • Course materials and equipment
  • Childcare

Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans that must be repaid.

The government pays the interest while you study and for one month after you leave your course. After this, you repay the loan and interest.

You must repay the loan even if you do not complete your course.

The Prospects website has a guide to the loans, scholarships and bursaries available in the UK, as well as advice on employer sponsorship, crowdfunding and working while studying part time.
