About the production

It’s May 1997. Tony Blair has won the election and Katrina and the Waves have won Eurovision. Channel 5 is a month old. No one knows who Harry Potter is. Britain is the coolest place in the world.

At the local secondary school it’s a different story. Miss Belltop-Doyle can’t control her Year 10s, Mr Pashley has been put in charge of a confiscated Tamagotchi, and Miss Turner is hoping that this muck-up day goes smoother than the last. Tobias, the German language assistant, watches on. Things can only get better.

Education, Education, Education is The Wardrobe Ensemble’s love letter to the schools of the 1990s and asks big questions about a country in special measures, exploring what we are taught and why, and where responsibility lies.

Sepy Baghaei is a theatre director based in London. She originally trained as an actor at the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art, before moving to London to complete an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In 2023, she was invited to take part in the National Theatre Directors course.

Sepy is primarily drawn to new writing. She has worked with a range of British theatre companies including: the National Theatre, Almeida Theatre, The Gate, English Touring Theatre, Sheffield Theatres, and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Sepy’s work as a director has received a range of awards and nominations internationally. Her production of Wish You Were Here for The Gate Theatre was nominated for an Off West End Award for Best Production; and her production of Daytime Deewane for the National Theatre of Parramatta was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Award for Best Production for Young People. She won Best Production for Something To Be Done at Short+Sweet Sydney, where she was also nominated for the Best New Talent award. She is a recipient of the Ian Potter Cultural Trust Award and the Guildford Academic Associates scholarship, and has been longlisted for the RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award.

The Wardrobe Ensemble are a group of theatre artists working together to make new plays that dissect the twenty-first century experience. We consist of nine core members, one producer and a constantly growing community of associate artists. We are based in Bristol.

Flashy, rough, silly and serious, we explore the big ideas of our time through intimate human stories. We are usually energetic, often irreverent and dedicated to finding the place where the intellectual and the emotional collide.
