LAMDA launches new brand identity and website to reflect its reputation for excellence and ambition for the future
LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) today launched a bold new brand identity and a redesigned website, marking a significant evolution in how the leading performing arts conservatoire and awarding organisation presents itself to audiences in the UK and internationally.
The simultaneous roll-out arrives during a sustained period of change and growth at the 165 year-old institution. In recent years, LAMDA has expanded its full-time and short course offer, continued to grow LAMDA Exams, now taken by over 120,000 learners each year worldwide, and developed its academic research and knowledge transfer work.
The new brand identity features a new logo and wider visual system designed to balance LAMDA’s heritage and reputation with its inclusive, forward-looking values. Alongside this, the new website offers a more intuitive digital experience, with improved navigation and easier access to LAMDA’s courses, qualifications, performances and wider activity.
Professor Mark O’Thomas, Principal and CEO of LAMDA, said:
“This launch marks an important moment for LAMDA. We are a conservatoire with deep roots and global reach – training actors, technicians and creative practitioners here in London, and connecting with learners around the world through LAMDA Exams.
Our new identity gives that breadth a single, confident voice, and our new website makes it accessible to everyone we serve: prospective students, audiences, Exams customers, supporters and partners. It reflects what LAMDA is today and, just as importantly, where we are going.”

Following a formal tender process, the new identity was created by Manchester-based design agency Only, with digital marketing agency Itineris leading on the website development.
Only’s previous work includes high-profile cultural and higher education organisations including the British Academy and Cardiff University.
Matt Tweddle, Creative Director at Only, said:
“It was a privilege to work on the rebrand of an institution with LAMDA’s history and cultural significance. The challenge was to create an identity that could draw on 165 years of rigour and heritage while expressing the progressive, creatively vibrant place it is today.
The ensemble ethos felt particularly important: the idea that individual talent is strengthened through collaboration and shared purpose. We’ve worked hard to create an identity that feels flexible and confident, while capturing the energy, rigour and ambition that set LAMDA apart.”
Development of the new website has been funded through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Program, which supports arts and cultural organisations in the UK and USA to strengthen their technology infrastructure, build resilience and develop their digital capabilities.
