Graduate Journeys: Zana Hoxha (MA Directing)
From stage to screen and beyond, the Class of 2024 are already making their mark on the industry. Zana Hoxha, who trained on our MA Directing programme, reflects on her professional journey and what LAMDA taught her.
"Since graduating, I’ve continued to create work rooted in justice and visibility. Most recently, I directed Women of Troy, a bilingual Albanian-Serbian adaptation that has toured Kosovo and Serbia and will be presented at festivals in Italy this September. I also lead the FemArt Festival—the largest feminist arts platform in the Balkans—and run Artpolis, an organisation using art to drive social change.
A particularly meaningful project has been Woyzeck, which I was inspired to direct during my time at LAMDA. The production premiered in Kosovo earlier this year with design by RADA graduate Grace Rumsey, a collaborator I first worked with on my final project at LAMDA, REVOLT. SHE SAID. REVOLT AGAIN. by Alice Birch.
"My training at LAMDA introduced me to mentors, collaborators and lifelong inspirations."
That production, which I consider one of my most treasured works, has since been presented at FemArt and will be shown in Paris this September at the Weetoo Festival. I was also fortunate to work again with my LAMDA tutor Nicoletta Bonanni, who joined me as Movement Director on Woyzeck.
My training at LAMDA deepened my understanding of intersectionality and safe working practices, while introducing me to mentors, collaborators and lifelong inspirations. The emphasis on collaboration, critical thinking and ethical leadership continues to shape my practice."
