  • Silent Witness returns to BBC One on 7 January with David Caves.
  • Benedict Cumberbatch, Elliot Edusah (2018), Adam Hugill (2018) and Paul Tinto (2010) star in 1917, released on 10 January.
  • Sam Claflin and Joe Claflin (2012) star in The Corrupted, released on 10 January.
  • Hermione Norris returns to Cold Feet for series 9 from 13 January on ITV.
  • David Haig stars in new drama series Cobra on Sky One from 17 January.
  • Sex Education season 2 with Alistair Petrie will be available on Netflix from 17 January.
  • Anthony Head stars in Feedback, released in US cinemas on 17 January.
  • Oliver: Lagos to London will be released Sunday 19 January on BBC Radio 4, starring Samuel Adebayo (2019).
  • Bombshell is released in UK cinemas on 20 January with John Lithgow.
  • Avenue 5 premieres on Sky One on 22 January with Nikki Amuka-Bird.
  • Harry Treadaway stars in Star Trek: Picard, available on Amazon from 23 January.
  • Come Away starring Anna Chancellor, Damian O'Hare and David Oyelowo will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on 24 January.
  • Audiobook The Second Midnight is released on Audible on 28 January, narrated by Leighton Pugh.
  • Richard Armitage stars in new thriller series The Stranger coming to Netflix on 30 January.
  • Charles Babalola (2014) stars in Gretel & Hansel, released on 31 January.
  • On 31 January Queen & Slim will be released, starring Benito Martinez.

Self-created work

  • Mischief Theatre’s new show Magic Goes Wrong opens at Vaudeville Theatre on 8 January.
  • On 15 January Matthew Bulgo’s new play American Nightmare premieres at Theatre 503.
  • On 26 January Amelia Donkor will be hosting Sister Stories: Streatham.
  • Helen Duff will be performing her one woman show Helen Duff Is The Tits (Work in Progress) at Vault Festival on 28 January.
  • Lucy Atkinson (2014) and Tatty Hennessy (2013) have co-written and will direct Something Awful at Vault Festival from 28 January.

Behind the scenes

  • On 7 January performances of Henry VI begin at The Globe, with Barney McElholm as assistant director.
  • ​​​​​​ Mia Stubbings (final year student) is Prop Maker for Mischief Theatre’s Magic Goes Wrong opening at The Vaudeville Theatre on 8 January.
  • John Plews is directing 42nd Street at Upstairs at the Gatehouse, running until 26 January.

On stage

  • Chris Porter stars in Lullabies For The Lost at Old Red Lion Theatre from 7 January.
  • Richard Armitage, Anna Calder-Marshall & Rosalind Eleazar (2015) star in Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 14 January.
  • Performances of Faustus: That Damned Woman begin on 22 January at The Lyric Hammersmith with Katherine Carlton (2013), Danny Lee Wynter and Tim Samuels.
  • The Sugar Syndrome runs at the Orange Tree Theatre from 24 January with Alexandra Gilbreath.

  • Congratulations to Brian Cox on his Best Actor in a Drama TV Series Golden Globe win for his role in Succession.
  • LAMDA Director Sarah Frankcom has been listed as number 13 in The Stage’s 100. Congratulations to Mischief Theatre who were also listed as number 38.
