08 June 2026
On 1 August 2026, LAMDA Exams will launch updated specifications for the Musical Theatre syllabus and PCertLAM syllabus.

The updated syllabi have been developed with clarity, progression and accessibility at the forefront, and will be available for free download on the LAMDA website from 1 August 2026. Paperback editions will be available to purchase on the LAMDA online shop in September 2026.

Find more information about syllabus changes, guidance for teachers, and the official launch below.

Musical Theatre Syllabus

The updated Musical Theatre syllabus launches as a free downloadable PDF on 1 August 2026 and will be effective for examinations from 1 January 2027.

The new syllabus specifications have been developed following in-depth consultation with a range of stakeholders, including teachers, centre coordinators and examiners, and a testing period to assess the new materials.

Key changes include:

  • Exam Regulations have been updated and expanded
  • Learning Outcomes have been amended and refined
  • Content has been revised and developed and changes made in line with feedback
  • Assessment Criteria wording has been fully reviewed and all feedback from a range of stakeholders (including teachers and examiners) taken on board
  • Knowledge Criteria have been updated to make them more learner friendly

Over the coming months, additional support materials for teachers will be published, including a free webinar and resources to support the teaching of the new syllabus.

Our online launch events will take place on 23 September 2026, at 10am or 4pm. Register now to hear more about the key changes and ask a question to our Qualifications Team.

PCertLAM Syllabus

The updated PCertLAM syllabus launches as a free downloadable PDF on 1 August 2026 and will be effective for examinations from 1 August 2026.

There will be no changes to the assessment criteria and content required overall, and as such, the qualification itself has been extended and not replaced. This means the new syllabus will be available for use immediately following launch.

Some minor revisions have been made to the examination regulations. We are also launching a new Portfolio Workbook, meaning the format for submission will change for Unit 1: Performance Theory.

To request a copy of the new Portfolio Workbook prior to the official launch on 1 August 2026, please email [email protected]

In accordance with our late registration process, if learners have already started to produce a written assignment in the form of a Portfolio of Evidence (in line with the 2021 syllabus), this can still be submitted until 31 July 2027.
