Bethany McDonald Shepherd | Hustle Panel Host

Head of Social & Charitable Innovation at LAMDA
Bethany has been making theatre, directing plays, and fundraising for the arts professionally for over twenty years. She moved to the UK in 2005 to undertake the LAMDA Director’s Course and went on to receive her MA in Arts Policy & Management from Birkbeck in 2008.

Bethany is co-founder of the grassroots, participatory arts company, Blank Cheque, which has been generously funded by Arts Council England (www.blankcheque.org). She has worked within prisons as well as with marginalised groups outside of prisons, primarily working with and for women to create work that offers a voice to those often unheard. Blank Cheque has partnered with Clean Break, Synergy Theatre Project, Hibiscus Initiatives, and the Independent Film Trust to deliver drama-based activities with under-represented people.

Bethany is an active member of the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance, received her Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS) from South Thames College, and is a postgraduate researcher at Newcastle University looking at the social impact of feminist activist theatre.
