Matt Applewhite

Matt Applewhite was appointed Managing Director of Nick Hern Books Ltd, one of the UK’s leading theatre publishers and performing rights agents, in 2013, having worked for the company – in reverse order – as Commissioning Editor, Company Secretary, Production Editor, Sales and Marketing Manager, and Editorial Assistant.

He has directed plays in London, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Paris and on tour of Europe, was the Director of the Amateur Dramatic Club, the oldest and largest drama society at the University of Cambridge, and Director of the European Theatre Group. He has taken many speech and drama examinations, from various awarding bodies, including LAMDA Speech and Drama Grade 2 in 1987, aged eight.

Matt was on the Olivier Awards Theatre Panel 2012-13, was Vice-Chair of the Festival Branch of Samaritans, with whom he still volunteers, and was a Trustee for Outset Youth Action.

Matt received a First in his BA in English at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, where he was elected to a scholarship, and won both the English and Drama prizes. He received Distinction for his MA in Text and Performance, taught jointly at King’s College, London, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
