About the show

It's the end of everything in contemporary America. A future without power. Mr Burns asks how the stories we tell make us the people we are. When society has crumbled the play imagines the future for America's most famous family.

The running time is 2 hours 45 minutes, including an interval of 20 minutes.

Anne Washburn's plays include 10 out of 12, Antlia Pneumatica, Apparition, The Communist Dracula Pageant, A Devil At Noon, I Have Loved Strangers, The Internationalist, The Ladies, Little Bunny Foo Foo, Mr. Burns, Shipwreck, The Small, an adaption of The Twilight Zone, and transadaptations of Euripides' Orestes & Iphigenia in Aulis. Her work has been produced nationally, and internationally. Awards include a Whiting, a Guggenheim, an Alpert Award, a PEN/Laura Pels award, a NYFA Fellowship, a Time Warner Fellowship, Susan Smith Blackburn finalist twice, and residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo.

Emma is a freelance theatre director. She trained at Goldsmiths, University of London and at the Young Vic. Emma has a passion for new work and predominantly directs new plays. She believes we have a responsibility to contribute to the world we inhabit and address the state of society we occupy. 

Recent Directing includes productions for LAMDA, Queens Theatre Hornchurch, the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Bunker. Emma has worked as Associate / Assistant Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Headlong, Young Vic, Theatre Royal Stratford East, New Diorama, Salisbury Playhouse, The Print Room, St James’ Theatre, The Pleasance and in the West End at Theatre Royal Haymarket with John Caird.

Emma is an associate artist at National Youth Theatre and a mentor director for National Theatre Connections. She is a guest director at LAMDA, RWCMD and Theatre Academy London. Emma also facilitates regular workshops for organisations such as National Theatre, Young Vic Theatre, RTYDS, NYT, Arts Ed, University of Kent, Goldsmiths College, and Theatre Academy London. Emma taught and directed at The Brit School for six years. Emma teaches because she is passionate about empowering artists from all walks of life to find and hone their voice.

Pricing and concessions 

Tickets cost £14, but we have £7 concessions tickets available to Hammersmith & Fulham residents, students, or people who are over 65, under 18 or are on Job Seeker's Allowance. You'll just need to provide proof of your eligibility when you collect your tickets at the Box Office. We offer a complimentary ticket for carers, to book please call the box office on 020 8834 0550. If you belong to our Pathways Programme or work with any of our Pathways Partners you are entitled to complimentary tickets. Ticket collection for in-person tickets

There is no need to collect tickets. You will be ticked off an attendance list on arrival.
