Our Motion Capture for Performance course is ideal for actors and performers interested in working in games, animation and virtual production.
It combines LAMDA’s movement and acting techniques with hands-on experience with cutting-edge motion capture technology.

About the course
Discover how to create embodied and immersive performances for Motion Capture in this artist-led, intensive two-day course at LAMDA’s brand-new facilities.
This course is an exciting opportunity for performers and creators to familiarise themselves with the fast-growing motion capture sector.
- Day 1: You will explore rehearsal and technique
- Day 2: You will be ‘suited up’ to experience practical volume capture, review and basic post‑capture workflows
In this highly practical two-day course, participants will work in LAMDA's brand-new, 30-camera MOCAP studio, and learn how to perform with this cutting-edge technology.
What will I learn?
- Receive an immersive introduction to the basics of character creation, idles and walk cycles.
- Understand motion capture terminology and the creative pipeline required for Motion Capture projects.
- Tailor performances for digital characters and create fully embodied and immersive performances to drive digital avatars.
- Learn how to work practically inside a motion capture vault, including being ‘suited up’ on Day 2.
About the Tutor
Maggie Bain is an actor, voice actor, movement director, and immersive XR practitioner, with nearly 20 years of expertise in physicality and collaborative storytelling across stage, screen, video games, and the immersive arts.
Is this course for me?
No previous experience of working with Motion Capture is necessary, but to get the most out of this course, you will have some performance or performance-adjacent experience.
This is a mixed level course, meaning participants will have a range of experiences.

This course is for participants aged 18+.
In order to train on this course, you should have a level of English that is approximately IELTS 6.0 or equivalent English Language experience.
You can test your level using the Cambridge English Language Assessment or the CEFR’s Self-Assessment Table. B2 Proficiency is roughly equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
