About the course

(Re)Discover acting through song with this Actor Refresh evening course, designed for professional actors who would like to refresh or build confidence in their singing practice.

Whilst this course will explore basic singing technique and musicality, the focus will be on how to act through a song, and how to approach song as a means of storytelling.

You'll leave the course with a selection of techniques to approach song preparation and performance.

What will I learn?

  1. You'll explore key elements of singing technique, musicality and storytelling.
  2. You'll explore song selection and preparation.

Is this course for me?

This course is suitable if you have trained at drama school, or have significant professional acting experience. You don't need to have studied singing or acting through song previously to take part in the course.

Our expert tutor will adapt to the specific requirements and experience of the cohort, and you can expect to be challenged and supported to ensure that you get the most out of the course.

You'll be working as part of a group, and will be expected to sing in front of each other. Although you will receive bespoke, one-to-one feedback, participants should note that this course is not an individual or private singing class.

This is a professional level course, and is designed for participants with significant acting experience.

Key Information

LAMDA's Actor Refresh courses have no 'product' other than the vitally important task of reconnecting with the joy of acting.

In the day-to-day hustle of being a jobbing actor it is so easy to lose sight of your love of acting, and these courses seek to redress this. Where many workshops aimed at professional actors are industry-focused, taking part in an Actor Refresh course is a radical opportunity to simply act.

Participants will need to bring a song (including one verse and one chorus) as well as sheet music to the course.

This song can be in any genre, but it needs to have a story behind it / a reason to be sung.

Tutor information to be announced.

Please note that from time to time we may need to change the advertised tutor due to availability. In these instances, we will always replace the tutor with an alternative LAMDA tutor or associate.

This course is for participants aged 21+.

Applicants must have at least three professional, verifiable acting credits, or an Acting Qualification at Level 4 or higher. We reserve the right to verify any qualifications you have highlighted in your application form.

In order to train on this course, you should have a level of English that is approximately IELTS 6.0 or equivalent English Language experience.

You can test your level using the Cambridge English Language Assessment or the CEFR’s Self-Assessment Table. B2 Proficiency is roughly equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
