Syllabi update - Musical Theatre Solo/Duo and PCertLAM

New syllabi will come in to effect for exams taken from August 2021

08 December 2020

LAMDA currently revises all qualifications and examinations on a five year cycle. Our next set of syllabi to be updated will be the Musical Theatre Solo/Duo and the LAMDA Certificate in Speech and Drama: Performance Studies (PCertLAM). They will both have new syllabus specifications coming into effect for exams taking place from 1 August 2021.

Group Musical Theatre exams will be updated in 2024, along with the LAMDA Group Graded Examinations Syllabus.

Affected qualifications and exams

We will still be assessing learners who have been entered for the above qualifications against the 2016 syllabus specifications for exams taking place until 31 July 2021.

For exam events that run between two academic years (from July 2021 through to August 2021), LAMDA will assess all of these learners against the current 2016 specifications, so long as the first day of the event is before 1 August 2021.

So, for example, if an event begins on 30 July 2021, and finishes on 3 August 2021, all these learners will be assessed against the 2016 syllabus specifications. This means that all learners taking their exams within a single event will all be assessed against the same syllabus. Exam events starting from 1 August 2021 will be assessed on the new 2021 syllabus.

FAQs

When will the new syllabus be available to teachers?

The new syllabus specifications for Musical Theatre Solo/Duo and LAMDA Certificate in Speech and Drama: Performance Studies (PCertLAM) will be made available to teachers and customers from spring 2021.

What changes are being made?

We have kept changes to a minimum but have taken on board feedback from teachers, parents, examiners and from internal observation.

What support will be offered to teachers?

LAMDA will be running free online webinars and videos for teachers throughout the summer of 2021. Teacher support materials will also be revised in line with the syllabus revision and made available for free on our website. We will continue to offer any advice and support via email.

Who can I talk to, to get more information on LAMDA qualifications?

To learn more about the options available to you please email [email protected]

If I do not complete both units for my PCertLAM, can I carry over my Unit 1 or Unit 2 result to the 2021 syllabus?

No. Unfortunately, we cannot recognise previous learning under the new syllabus. This is because some of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria may change. We need to ensure that you are able to meet all of these in order to gain the overall qualification and cannot retrospectively assess elements of the qualification that may have changed.

Will you still be offering UCAS points for Musical Theatre Solo/Duo Grades 6-8 and PCertLAM?

Yes. We are planning to still offer UCAS points for learners who have earned these qualifications. There are more details on how you can use these points.

Can I still get a duplicate or replacement certificate for the 2016 syllabus?

Yes. We can offer a duplicate or replacement certificate up to 12 months after the qualification has been withdrawn. This means we can issue duplicate certificates up until 31 July 2022. After this date, we be able offer a Letter of Attestation.
